Staropramen Lager Review

After a shitty week or so (seems like I have a lot of those doesn’t it?), I decided that I really needed a good beer.  Thankfully, luck was on my side as a brand new six pack shop opened up very close to my house.  Being the complete beer dork that I am, I was obligated to pick up a six pack of some random beer and see if I could find any "gems".  Sometimes picking out random beers is a crap shoot, as you have no idea if you’re going to find a quality product.  I chose to pick out three beers from micro breweries here in the United States, and three imports.  Today I’ll be trying out one of those imports entitled Staropramen Lager.  This will be my first time tasting this beer, so hopefully this will be a discovery of a "gem" and not a turd.

Show Me Your Genitals Video

Here is a video that I came across that deserves some recognition.  It’s a tongue-in-cheek rap video by comedian Jon Lajoie, in which he gives his thoughts on women.  Obviously it takes some subliminal jabs at the state of rap music today as well. But most of all, this man keeps it real:

Black Roses DVD Review With Soundtrack

In my opinion, the 80’s had it all: great movies, laughable clothing, TV that was worth watching, Nintendo, and hair bands.  Even though I was too young to remember the 80’s (I was born in 84), I’ve always held a soft spot for this backwards decade.  A good chunk of the films on my shelf are from this era, as is a large portion of the songs on my iPod.  So when I heard some buzz on the HorrorDVDs forum about a film called Black Roses being released on DVD, I was instantly intrigued.  According to the forum members, this film had combined two things that I love: cheesy low budget 80’s horror and hair bands.  Needless to say, this was a recipe for a good time and the DVD was immediately added to my wish list.  Here is my review for the epic 80’s heavy metal cheese fest Black Roses:

GWAR Concert In Pittsburgh: May 27th, 2008

A few hours I attended a concert from the legendary metal band GWAR.  For those that aren’t familiar with GWAR, they’re a heavy metal group that combines over the top theatrics, controversial lyrical content, and a clever mix of political and social satire.  If you want more information on those guys, check out their website.

Anyway, a typical GWAR concert involves the "deaths" of several popular figures, including George W. Bush and the Pope.  From here, fake blood (among other substances) is spewed all over the crowd while paired with a soundtrack often filled with death and destruction.  For those who "get it", it’s a mix of the darkest of dark comedy and entertainment, and quite frankly is an awesome concert.  This is my second time seeing GWAR in concert, and here are some videos from the show:

Bill O Reilly Flips Out – The Remixes

As you may have heard already, a video of everyone’s favorite conservative Bill O’Reilly has surfaced which shows him losing his cool during his days on Inside Edition.  Of course, this comes to everyone’s surprise considering that Bill is such a lovable, open-minded individual who is composed of nothing but journalistic integrity.  The video was released this Monday, and it is already one its way to becoming a huge internet sensation.  As with every video that gains popularity on the interwebs, parodies and remixes are sure to follow. Let’s take a look at a few of these remixes and parodies after we look at the original video:

Red Hook Long Hammer IPA Review

This weekend I was itching to pick up a case of "everyday" beer.  For me, there are beers for all types of occasions.  Some beer is meant to be enjoyed in small quantities (depending on hammered I want to get), while others are for special occasions such as reviews or sampling.  So I walked into the beer distributor (yeah, Pennsylvania has "distributors", you can’t buy beer in grocery stores or gas stations) and picked up a sampler case from Redhook Ale Brewery.  Having enjoyed their ESB beer on tap, I decided to give this a try.  Lets see if this IPA is stand out amongst the other beers in the sampler pack.

Ahmed Johnson’s Nonsencial Promo’s

So I’m sitting here in a hotel room in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania on a business trip.   I’m watching Wheel of Fortune and I’m drinking beer so I figured, what better time to update my site?  Earlier today, I visited the Appalachian Brewing Company in downtown Harrisburg and sampled some of their beer (as well as picking up a six pack for the hotel).  Perhaps I’ll give one of their beers a review if I don’t drink it all tonight.

Anyway, here’s a video that I dug up on Youtube starring former WWE wrestler Ahmed Johnson.  You see, old Ahmed wasn’t exactly the best on the microphone.  In fact, his interviews and promo’s caused more people to scratch their heads rather than to be excited for his wrestling matches.  So when Ahmed was forced to cut not one, but four promo’s for the Playstation game WWF Warzone, hilarity and confusion ensued.  Luckily there is this video that subtitles three of these promo’s with interesting results:

Grand Theft Auto 4 Already Causing Controversy

Today marks the release of one of the most anticipated games in history:  Grand Theft Auto 4.  If you’re even remotely into video games, you’ve at least played one of the games in the GTA series.  It’s innovative (and enjoyable) "open world" gameplay has pretty much changed video games forever, and that’s a good thing. I’d say that Grand Theft Auto is to "gamers" today as to what Super Mario Brothers was to gamers of yesteryear, except with more hookers, shootings, car jackings, drug use, and general fun loving mischief.  However, most of that stuff is done in a very tongue-in-cheek manner, which some of folks seem to miss.

Of course with Grand Theft Auto’s popularity, the R-rated content within the game is going to be subjected to a fair amount of scrutiny whether justified or not.  Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas made headlines for its infamous "Hot Coffee" scenario, and the series has been blamed for several instances of violence.  In this day and age this is pretty much to be expected between so-called activists and the sensationalist media.  However, recently I came across an article of a reporter bashing GTA4 before it even hits the streets.   Let’s take a look at this article and see what all the hoopla is about, and perhaps even examine some future controversy that I see this game producing down the line in a very sarcastic manner.

Sole Survivor DVD Review

Back in 2000, I saw the film Final Destination in theaters.  The film had dealt with a teen that had a premonition of his friends dying in a plane crash, and he was able to convince them not to board.  Of course, the plane actually goes down in the film, and from this point his friends seem to start to get killed off one by one in horrific "accidents".  Final Destination spawned two more sequels and has proven to be a successful franchise.  However, a little known film entitled Sole Survivor follows a strikingly similar plot even though it pre-dates Final Destination by 17 years.  Here’s my review of Sole Survivor from its release through Code Red DVD.

Kurt Angle Has Lost His Mind

I’ve been a casual fan of Mixed Martial Arts for a good while, and a fan of Professional Wrestling for as long as I can remember.  Although my interest in both has significantly dwindled over the past couple of years, I still like to check on various wrestling rumor sites every once in awhile.  For a few years, amateur-turned-pro wrestler Kurt Angle was arguably the best pro wrestler on the planet both in the ring and on the microphone.  From 1999 – 2006, Kurt Angle had wrestled for World Wrestling Entertainment nearly non-stop, and it seemed that there was no end to his great performances.  However, in August of 2006 Kurt Angle would jump ship from WWE to the much smaller Total Nonstop Action promotion, and it seems that at this point, Kurt Angle lost his fucking mind.  Let’s take a look at this amazing performer, and his recent incidents of him going off the deep end:
