Sole Survivor DVD Review

Back in 2000, I saw the film Final Destination in theaters.  The film had dealt with a teen that had a premonition of his friends dying in a plane crash, and he was able to convince them not to board.  Of course, the plane actually goes down in the film, and from this point his friends seem to start to get killed off one by one in horrific "accidents".  Final Destination spawned two more sequels and has proven to be a successful franchise.  However, a little known film entitled Sole Survivor follows a strikingly similar plot even though it pre-dates Final Destination by 17 years.  Here’s my review of Sole Survivor from its release through Code Red DVD.

Kurt Angle Has Lost His Mind

I’ve been a casual fan of Mixed Martial Arts for a good while, and a fan of Professional Wrestling for as long as I can remember.  Although my interest in both has significantly dwindled over the past couple of years, I still like to check on various wrestling rumor sites every once in awhile.  For a few years, amateur-turned-pro wrestler Kurt Angle was arguably the best pro wrestler on the planet both in the ring and on the microphone.  From 1999 - 2006, Kurt Angle had wrestled for World Wrestling Entertainment nearly non-stop, and it seemed that there was no end to his great performances.  However, in August of 2006 Kurt Angle would jump ship from WWE to the much smaller Total Nonstop Action promotion, and it seems that at this point, Kurt Angle lost his fucking mind.  Let’s take a look at this amazing performer, and his recent incidents of him going off the deep end:

New Site Layout!

Well as you can see, I have a new header and footer for MiscGarbage.com.  This is all thanks to my pal Robbie Watson from the The Rants and Raves.  He did a fantastic job of encompassing what this site is all about, and the face lift he gave it is a definite upgrade from the usual Wordpress theme. I want to give him a huge thank you for taking the time and energy to lend me a hand, as he did a great job. I can’t thank him enough! Go visit his site:

The Worst Ways To Market a Horror Movie Featuring Prom Night 2008

Recently there has been some buzz over the new "horror" film, Prom Night which I’m guessing is hitting theaters soon.  This film is intended to be a remake of the classic 1980’s slasher of the same name starring Jamie Lee Curtis, yet appears to only bear resemblance to the original in name only.  I happened stumble across the trailer to this PG-13 film (I just love modern day PG-13 horror films, let me tell you) and what I saw quite frankly confused me.  Was this a feel-good teen drama about prom, or was it another not-so-scary horror film with a girl cowering in fear from a mysterious villain?

Quite frankly, I didn’t know what this film was aiming for.  However, little did I know that this streak of confusion was to continue as I explored the other ways that Sony Pictures was trying to market this shit-fest.  Here is by far some of the worst promotion for a "horror" movie that I’ve ever seen.  Let’s start with the trailer:

I Was Quoted On Mulberry Street’s Official Site

It was recently brought to my attention that my recent review of the film Mulberry Street was quoted on the official site of the film!  I just wanted to make a quick note of this, as I am thankful that they took notice of my blog.  Visit their official site and take a look, and if you haven’t, go pick up the DVD!  Below is a screenshot of the quote:

Sam Adams White Ale Review

Update 4/11/08:  Just thought I’d let my readers know that there has been a recall on certain Sam Adams bottles with the number "N35" on the bottom of them.  Apparently these bottle may have glass fragments in them.  The very bottle you see in this review has that lettering on it and I drank it from start to finish (yikes).  Nothing has happened to me thus far, but I wanted to make sure to bring this to everyone’s attention.  Don’t look for any further reviews of Sam Adam’s beer on this site, as I’ll be avoiding all of their beer for some time.  Be careful everyone!

Last weekend, a good friend of mine had informed me that he was going to pick up a case of Samuel Adams White Ale.  He had mentioned that he had tried this beer on tap and was quite impressed with the result.  However upon drinking the same beer from the bottle, he had had found that it wasn’t nearly as good as he originally thought.  In fact, he offered to give me a six pack of the beer in question and had asked me to review it on my blog.  Never a man to turn down a six pack of beer, I accepted this gracious offer and thus here is my review of Sam Adams White Ale:

Things To Do When You Could Care Less About Your Job

Last year I had worked for a very large corporation in their IT department for a year.  The job didn’t seem too bad at first, however rumors started to swell that there were some layoffs coming down the pipe line.  This was all merely speculation for a number of months, and no one really took it seriously.  However, it was soon revealed officially that I was going to get laid off, and about 75% of my co-workers were going to be laid off as well.  This of course was presented to us by one of the head honcho’s of upper management by accident, as these layoffs were suppose to come as a "here today, gone tomorrow" type of thing.

Naturally this had caused an intense drop in morale within myself and my fellow co-workers.  From this point forward, our days mainly consisted of watching Youtube, chatting aimlessly on instant messenger, and checking out random YTMNDs.  When we weren’t doing such amazing tasks, we engaged in other fine activities such as creating this lovely "crossword puzzle" on a board:

Subway’s Jared Cardboard Cut Out Has Gross Chest Hair

So I was eating at Subway and immediately noticed the life size cardboard cut out off Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle.  Now I find card board cut outs to be quite creepy in general, especially when they feature an overly happy man peddling sandwiches to you while grinning ear to ear.  But I guess to the normal American, Jared is part of popular culture somehow, and this particular cardboard cutout doesn’t look so threatening:

Mulberry St. Review

What better way to celebrate Easter than with a review of a horror film about killer rats?  Here we have the film Mulberry Street, which is part of 2007’s After Dark Horrorfest.  For those of you that aren’t familiar with the After Dark Horrorfest, it’s an annual "festival" of eight independent horror films that are grouped together and shown in one theater that’s put together by Lionsgate.  They had their first one in 2006 and the success of their DVD sales prompted this batch of "8 Films To Die For".  As for this particular film, there was some buzz going around that it was the best of the bunch in 2007, and it even graced the cover of Rue Morgue Magazine.  Let’s see if the buzz this film has been generating has been worthwhile:

Funniest Death Scenes In Movies

Ah, it’s been awhile since I’ve updated.  Lately I’ve been building my new PC which is a complete monster, and I’ll be sure to make a post about it as soon as it’s up and running.  In the mean time, here’s a hilarious video.

Basically, this is a compilation of the cheesiest and corniest death scenes from various B-movies.  My favorite ones by far are from Shark Attack 3 and Troll 2.  Check it out:
