So I was browsing one of the message boards I post on yesterday, and I came across a post about a guy showing off his new tattoo. Keep in mind that threads like this pop up from time to time with guys showing off their ink, and some tattoo work is alot better than others. For instance, there was on guy proudly displaying his Dimebag Darrell tattoo, however it looked like more like a Mexican dishwasher than the guitar legend. However, there are times when tattoo’s go above and beyond the normal realm of "what in the bloody hell where they thinking", and this my friends is one of those times. Behold, the white guy from South Florida with the word "Hyphy" tattooed on his lip:

So what exactly is "hyphy"? I’ll admit that I’m far from an expert, so I had to consult good old Wikipedia for such information:
Hyphy (pronounced /?ha?fi?/ HYE-fee) is a style of music and dance primarily associated with the Bay Area hip hop culture. The Hyphy movement started in the early ’90s but began to re-emerge in the early 2000s as a response from Bay Area rappers against commercial hip hop for ignoring the Bay’s influence on the hip hop industry. Although the "hyphy movement" has just recently seen light in mainstream America, it has been a long standing and evolving culture in the Bay Area. Bay Area rapper Keak Da Sneak takes credit for coining the term when, as a young boy, his mother would often tell him he was hyperactive. He would repeat the word "hyper" as "hyphy".
Also, here is a video that may provide some insight on the subject:
So basically, long story short, its a genre of hip hop that’s associated in the Bay Area of California. So why is this South Floridian getting this tattooed on his lip? Your guess is as good as mind my friend.

My initial reaction was, "this may be one of the stupidest tattoo’s I’ve ever seen". Of course, I was 100% correct, but on further inspection I have to give the guy some credit. It does take balls to have any tattoo put on your inner lip, and to choose to one that symbolizes a music moment an entire country away and that’s associated with entirely different demographic than your own is even more bold (or mind-blowingly retarded, depending on your perspective). I did in fact ask for his permission to make this post, and he granted it, so kudos to this young gentleman.
Another thing I was wondering is what is going to happen when he’s 80 years old? Whats going to happen when he can barely hold his mouth open and a retirement home nurse tries to wipe his face because she sees a smudge that resembles something between a piece of decayed skin or the word "_-__2"? Oh well, whatever floats your boat I guess.

This is me getting the tattoo in the picture. I’d just like to clarify a few things….
Hyphy is just as much for white people as it is black people and hyphy is world wide.
Calling me getting this tattoo “mind blowingly retarded”, while its an opinion, isnt very valid. There are plenty of other REAL stupid tatts out there. This one has meaning and is more then concealable.
Heres how i got started on the hyphy thing. I’m going to be on a MTV reality show that they filmed down here last year. It was centered around a group of cali skater kids and filmed partially at automatic slims in downtown ftlauderdale. They introduced me to what the true meaning of hyphy is.
To wit, Hyphy is a part of myself.
Its about cars, its about music, its about drugs (weeee!) its about a “movement” that i guess you could say im a part of. Whenever i get fucked up, im hyphy. Im loud, im obnoxious, and the only dances i do are the bump grind and thizzle (aka hyphy/turf dancing). Hence, hyphy.
Also when I am 80 this tattoo wont exist on my body. Innerlip tattoos aren’t exactly perminant and after I stop getting it touched up itll eventually fade till nothing or a few small spots of ink.
